UN to extend Libyan arms embargo ship inspections
The United Nations Security Council has voted to extend an agreement allowing UN authorised states to inspect ships in Libya which are suspected to violate the arms embargo, the Libya Gazette reported on 1st December.
While the vote was approved by 13 representatives, two representatives abstained. Algeria and China shared concerns relating to the transparency and effectiveness of the operation.
While the incorporation of these vessel inspections have been in place with the goal of facilitating peace and stability in Libya, there are fears over how multiple parties will enact these inspections.
