Ugandan opposition leader allegedly beaten by authorities
Bobi Wine, a prominent Ugandan opposition candidate, says he was beaten by security forces while campaigning in the northern city of Gulu, according to Africa News and AP on December 8th.
According to a series of posts on X, “the military attacked and vandalised” the office of Wine’s campaign team in Gulu. He stated that not all of the security forces were in uniform at the events and that the authorities had also damaged the sound system.
The election is scheduled for January 15th, and the UN previously condemned the arrests of an estimated 550 people since early 2025, while journalists critical of the government have been restricted.
