On September 17, U.S. President Joe Biden urged Sudan’s warring factions to bring an end to the war that has persisted for over 17 months, as reported by The Arab Weekly and agencies.

He specifically called on the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to withdraw their troops, allow unrestricted humanitarian aid, and return to negotiations to end the war.

“We call for all parties to this conflict to end this violence and refrain from fueling it, for the future of Sudan and for all of the Sudanese people,” Biden said in a statement.

Since the outbreak of hostilities on April 15, 2023, over 12,000 people have lost their lives across Sudan.

The conflict erupted when a power struggle between the Sudanese military and the paramilitary RSF, which had previously ruled jointly after a coup, turned into full-scale warfare.

The U.S. has since condemned both sides for committing war crimes and imposed sanctions on 16 individuals and organizations involved in the conflict.
