54 Beninese soldiers killed in attack by Sahel-based insurgents

The Beninese government has publicly confirmed that 54 of its troops were killed in an attack by insurgents near the border with Burkina Faso and Niger on April 17.
According to BBC News, the attack was claimed by the terrorist group Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin, which is based in the Sahel country of Mali and has ties to al-Qaeda.
The assault is being described as one if the worst in the country’s history and the most devasting in recent years.
