US Supreme Court backs Trump’s attack on transgender rights
The US Supreme Court has permitted the Trump administration to require passport applicants to have the document’s gender marker match their biological sex at birth instead of their gender identity, according to France 24 via AFP on November 6th.
This shift in US policy could deeply affect transgender and non-binary people’s ability to travel safely, and is part of the Supreme Court’s crackdown on individual liberties.
The executive order to have only two genders was introduced by Trump, but it was challenged by lower US courts, until the Department of Justice asked for the Supreme Court to address the case as an emergency.
