Western Sahara: Somalia reaffirms support for Morocco
Somalia has reaffirmed its support for Moroccan sovereignty over the Western Sahara, following a meeting in Rabat on November 28th, according to the Moroccan government-friendly outlet North Africa Post and agencies.
The UN Security Council voted that Resolution 2797, also known as the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, was a “feasible solution” on October 31st. Under this proposal, the Western Sahara would be granted limited self-governance under Moroccan sovereignty.
Morocco’s “serious and credible efforts” to resolve the long-standing territorial dispute were praised by Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali. Somalia joins 130 other nations in supporting Morocco’s proposal.
