Algeria accused France on January 11th of waging a disinformation campaign against it along with a diplomatic escalation through statements by French officials, reported Anadolu Ajansi.

It followed Algiers’ rejection of the deportation of an Algerian social media influencer by Paris. The accusation by Algeria’s foreign ministry was a response to France’s interior minister Bruno Betailleau alleging on January 10th that Algiers is seeing to humiliate Paris with its refusal to receive the influencer.

The Algerian ministry accused the far-right in France of “waging a campaign of disinformation” against Algiers through known French government members. “Algeria is in no way engaged in a logic of escalation…. or humiliation” against France, it said.
